What the house was opened for

Family holiday rental in Chablis

A full week for six in a single-storey house set in enclosed grounds, five minutes’ walk from the centre of Chablis.

This is why the house was opened to guests: to take in whole families, for a week, in a place that has not been sanitised for the rental market. Three generations fit here without getting in each other’s way.

Why this house works for families

Three things come up again and again in our guests’ feedback:

  • The fully enclosed grounds. A closed gate, no road to cross, nothing overlooking: young children play outside without constant supervision.
  • Everything on one level. Not a single staircase. Pushchairs roll, grandparents keep up, nobody falls in the night.
  • Real space. Kitchen, dining room, lounge and billiard room: everyone can find a corner, which changes everything over seven days with six people.
Suggested programme

A typical family week in Chablis

  • Saturday — arrive late afternoon, meet Roseline, shop in the centre of Chablis and eat the first meal in the garden.
  • Sunday — Chablis market in the morning, then a walk through the premier cru vines above the village.
  • Monday — a day in Auxerre (20 km): the cathedral, Saint-Germain abbey and the banks of the Yonne.
  • Tuesday — take the house bicycles along the Serein and through the surrounding wine villages.
  • Wednesday — Pontigny Abbey in the morning, swimming or garden games in the afternoon.
  • Thursday — Noyers-sur-Serein, one of France’s most beautiful villages, and its medieval lanes.
  • Friday — a cellar visit in Chablis for the adults, billiards and a long table for the last evening.
